Governor Douye Diri has charged the newly sworn-in Deputy Governor of Bayelsa State, Dr. Peter Akpe, and other appointees to serve with integrity, commitment, and fear of God.
Dr. Peter Akpe was sworn in on Wednesday by the Chief Judge of the state, Justice Matilda Abrakasa Ayemieye, at the Executive Council Chambers, Government House Yenagoa.
Until his nomination and confirmation by the Bayelsa State House of Assembly, Akpe served as Chief of Staff at the Government House. He becomes the sixth deputy governor of the state in the current democratic dispensation, following the death of his predecessor, Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo, in December 2025.
Administering the oath of office and allegiance, the Chief Judge urged Akpe to uphold the Constitution and justify the confidence reposed in him.
Governor Diri said the appointment was guided by continuity, competence, character, and commitment, expressing confidence that the new deputy governor would be a dependable partner in the state’s development.
Also sworn in were the Commissioner for Women, Children Affairs, Empowerment and Social Development, Madam Joanna Gigi, and 18 Permanent Secretaries.
