The Nigeria Police Force has reportedly removed Benjamin Hundeyin from his position as Force Public Relations Officer (FPRO), barely six months after assuming the role.

According to reports, the decision was approved on Thursday, March 5, 2026. However, the police authorities have not officially disclosed the reason for the development.

The change follows the recent leadership transition within the police hierarchy. On Wednesday, Bola Ahmed Tinubu officially inaugurated Tunji Disu as the substantive Inspector-General of Police.

Disu, who is now the 23rd Inspector-General of Police, was appointed after the removal of Kayode Egbetokun, who had served in the position since 2023.

Sources within the police said Hundeyin’s removal took place on Thursday morning as part of broader administrative adjustments following the appointment of the new police chief.

A senior officer in the force confirmed that such changes are common when a new Inspector-General assumes office, often involving the restructuring of key positions within the police leadership.

As of the time of filing this report, it was not yet clear who would replace Hundeyin as the next Force Public Relations Officer.

Hundeyin was appointed as police spokesperson by former Inspector-General Kayode Egbetokun. The Lagos-born officer from Badagry studied English Language at Lagos State University where he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree.

He later obtained a Master’s degree in Legal Criminology and Security Psychology from University of Ibadan.

The police officer also received civil-military coordination training at the Martin Luther Agwai International Leadership and Peacekeeping Training Centre.

Over the years, Hundeyin served as Police Public Relations Officer at the Zone 2 Command Headquarters in Onikan, Lagos, and participated in the United Nations–African Union Mission in Darfur in 2020.

He is also affiliated with several professional bodies, including the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations, the International Public Relations Association, and the Chartered Institute of Personnel Management of Nigeria.
