The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has marked World Civil Defence Day with the inauguration of a Hydrocarbon and Maritime Security Command and Control Centre at its headquarters in Abuja.
The facility, donated by Tantita Security Services, is designed to enhance surveillance and protection of Nigeria’s critical oil and gas infrastructure. The initiative is part of efforts to curb crude oil theft, which costs the country billions of dollars annually in lost revenue and foreign exchange, while also causing environmental damage.
Speaking at the ceremony, Commandant General of the NSCDC, Ahmed Abubakar Audi, said the centre—named after the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu—will be connected to the Office of the National Security Adviser to strengthen inter-agency collaboration and intelligence sharing.
The donation also included two operational Hilux vehicles.
Other projects commissioned as part of the celebration include a fire station, a VIP office, and a 24-unit staff quarters, as well as the virtual inauguration of four command units in Bauchi, Kaduna, Bayelsa, and Kogi states.
