Former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, on Tuesday morning arrived at the Federal High Court for his arraignment over alleged money laundering and related offences.

The trial follows an earlier announcement by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), confirming that the former governor would be docked before the court on March 24, 2026.

Multiple Charges Filed

According to court documents filed under suit number FHC/KD/73/2026, El-Rufai is facing multiple counts bordering on alleged corruption. The charges include conversion and possession of public property, money laundering, abuse of office, fraud, intent to commit fraud, and conferring undue advantage.

Heavy Security Presence

Security was significantly heightened around the court premises ahead of the proceedings. Operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS), Nigeria Police Force, Mobile Police Force, and Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps were deployed to strategic locations to maintain order.

The court complex, situated within the old Nigerian Defence Academy area in Kaduna, witnessed strict security checks as early as 7:00 a.m.

The increased security also disrupted vehicular movement in the area, as motorists were restricted to a single lane from the Ungwan Sarki axis through Kawo, resulting in early morning traffic congestion and delays.

Trial Begins

The proceedings are expected to commence with the formal reading of charges and the defendant’s plea, marking the beginning of what is anticipated to be a closely watched legal battle involving the former governor.

  • Yes, Nigeria is not perfect we all see the challenges. But constantly spreading negativity without offering solutions only keeps us stuck in the same cycle.
The truth is: every nation grows because its people decide to rise above the situation and create value where they are. Progress does not start from government alone it starts from individuals who choose to think differently, act differently, and build something meaningful.
This is what SoftNigeria represents a mindset shift.
A belief that regardless of the system, we still have the power to: • improve our immediate environment
    • support one another
    • create opportunities instead of waiting endlessly
If we all focus on becoming better, disciplined, and productive in our own spaces, the bigger Nigeria will naturally reflect that change.
Let’s not just complain let’s contribute.
Let’s not just criticize let’s build.
Nigeria works better when we do.
