Iran has launched a new wave of missiles targeting Israel early Tuesday, further heightening tensions between the two long-standing rivals.
According to Iranian state television, the strikes come on the heels of earlier attacks that reportedly hit a building in northern Israel, while a loud explosion was also heard in Jerusalem.
Iran’s state broadcaster, Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting (IRIB), announced the development via its Telegram channel, stating that the missiles were fired toward what it described as “occupied territories.” The broadcaster also claimed that some of the missiles breached Israel’s defense systems.
Israeli emergency services, Magen David Adom, confirmed that a structure in northern Israel sustained damage during the attack. A video released by the agency showed the extent of the destruction. However, officials said no fatalities were recorded.
The Israeli military acknowledged detecting incoming missiles from Iran and confirmed that its air defense systems were activated in response.
The latest escalation follows reports that Israel had earlier carried out a fresh round of airstrikes on Iranian territory. Iranian media reported explosions in Tehran shortly after the Israeli operation.
Meanwhile, the growing conflict appears to be spreading across the region, with Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates confirming that they intercepted missiles and drones within their airspace.
The International Energy Agency (IEA) has raised concerns over the broader implications of the crisis, revealing that at least 40 major energy facilities across the oil- and gas-producing region have been severely impacted since the hostilities began.
IEA Executive Director Fatih Birol warned that the scale of disruption could have far-reaching consequences for the global economy.
“No country will be immune to the effects of this crisis if it continues to escalate,” Birol said, calling for coordinated international efforts to contain the situation.
