The Federal Government has released a list of 48 individuals and groups allegedly linked to terrorism financing in Nigeria.

The list, published on Saturday by the Nigeria Sanctions Committee, includes names of persons and entities suspected of involvement in funding terrorist activities across the country.

According to the report, some of those listed are linked to groups such as the Indigenous People of Biafra, Ansaru, and the Islamic State West Africa Province.

The development comes months after the Chief of Defence Staff, Christopher Musa, disclosed ongoing efforts by authorities to identify and prosecute individuals financing terrorism. He noted that the process remains complex due to legal hurdles and the involvement of international networks.

Meanwhile, Nigeria has recorded one of the sharpest increases in terrorism-related fatalities globally, despite an overall decline in such deaths worldwide.

This was revealed in the 2026 Global Terrorism Index report released by the Institute for Economics & Peace. The report indicated that terrorism-related deaths in Nigeria rose by 46 per cent in 2025, reaching a total of 750 fatalities.

It attributed the majority of the killings to extremist groups, stating that ISWAP and Boko Haram were responsible for about 80 per cent of all terrorism-related deaths in the country.

The report further noted that terrorism remains heavily concentrated in a few countries globally, with Nigeria ranking among the most affected.
