Operatives of the Nigeria Police Force have arrested Prince Adeniyi Adeyemi, the self-proclaimed Director-General of the alleged fake Presidential Foreign Investment Promotion Council (PFIPC), following a warrant issued by the Federal High Court in Abuja.
Adeyemi was taken into custody after failing to appear before the court for his scheduled arraignment on multiple criminal charges, including conspiracy, forgery and impersonation.
The arrest warrant was issued by Justice Mohammed Umar after the prosecution informed the court that the defendant was absent without explanation. Following the application by the prosecution, the court directed law enforcement agencies to apprehend the suspect and produce him before the court to answer the charges filed against him.
Acting on the court’s directive, operatives of the Intelligence Response Team (IRT) tracked and arrested Adeyemi in Osun State. He was subsequently taken into police custody, where he is expected to remain pending his appearance before the Federal High Court.
Confirming the development, the Nigeria Police Force, through the Office of the Force Public Relations Officer, stated that the suspect is now in custody and will be arraigned in accordance with due legal process. The police reiterated their commitment to enforcing court orders and ensuring that individuals facing criminal allegations are brought before the courts to answer for their actions.
The charges against Adeyemi stem from allegations that he falsely presented himself as the Director-General of the Presidential Foreign Investment Promotion Council, an organisation authorities have described as unauthorised. Prosecutors accuse him of engaging in acts of conspiracy, forgery and impersonation in connection with the activities of the purported council.
The case is expected to proceed before the Federal High Court in Abuja, where the defendant will have the opportunity to enter his plea. The prosecution is anticipated to present evidence in support of the charges, while the court determines the next stage of the proceedings in line with Nigeria’s judicial process.
The arrest underscores the determination of law enforcement agencies to pursue individuals accused of impersonating government institutions or officials, while reaffirming that criminal allegations must be resolved through the courts in accordance with the rule of law.
