Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, has announced a comprehensive support package for 86 Delta indigenes who recently returned from South Africa following xenophobic attacks.
The package was unveiled during a reception held at the Unity Hall, Government House, Asaba, where the Governor was represented by his Chief of Staff, Hon. Johnson Erijo.
Speaking on behalf of the Governor, Erijo said each affected family would receive ₦2 million to help them restart their lives, while individuals would receive a monthly stipend of ₦200,000. Those with families are expected to receive ₦300,000 beginning from August 2026 until the end of the Governor’s first term in office.
He also announced that the returnees would benefit from free medical screening at state-owned hospitals, as well as trauma counselling through the Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Services.
According to the Governor, the intervention is aimed at helping the victims recover after losing their homes, businesses and means of livelihood during the attacks.
Governor Oborevwori, through his representative, welcomed the returnees back home, describing the attacks as unfortunate and unacceptable.
He said that no one should be subjected to violence, displacement or fear because of their nationality, reaffirming the Delta State Government’s commitment to the welfare, safety and dignity of its citizens wherever they may be.
