Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, has directed Julius Berger Nigeria Plc to immediately undertake remedial works on the washed-out section of the East-West Road at Agbarho, Ughelli North Local Government Area.
The State Commissioner for Works, Rural Roads and Public Information, Mr. Charles Aniagwu, disclosed this in a statement issued Thursday in Asaba.
Aniagwu said the Governor was concerned about the hardship caused to motorists, residents, businesses and other road users following the collapse of the federal highway.
He explained that the affected section collapsed due to severe erosion triggered by heavy rainfall.
According to the Commissioner, although the East-West Road is under the Federal Government, Governor Oborevwori directed Julius Berger to intervene because of the road’s importance to the movement of people, goods and services across the Niger Delta.
Aniagwu said the intervention demonstrates the state government’s commitment to addressing critical infrastructure challenges, regardless of jurisdiction.
He urged motorists to exercise caution around the affected section while remedial works are underway.
