Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori has rewarded Great Chinedu Okediachi with ₦20 million for winning the World Spelling Bee Championship in China.

The governor announced the reward at the Government House in Asaba while receiving the championship trophy from the student and officials of the Ministry of Secondary Education. He also pledged support for Madonna International School, where the champion is a student.

Governor Oborevwori said the achievement reflects the state’s continued investment in education, describing education as the greatest legacy parents and governments can give to children.

He also commended the student’s parents for their support and noted that Delta State students are making their mark in international academic competitions.

Commissioner for Secondary Education, Dr. Kingsley Ashibuogwu, described the victory as a proud moment for Delta State, Nigeria and Africa, saying the prestigious championship trophy has returned to the continent.

The latest recognition comes just days after the Asagba of Asaba, Professor Epiphany Azinge (SAN), awarded the young champion a full university scholarship in honour of his outstanding achievement.
