News Report:
Former Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Bello, has obtained the nomination form of the All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of the 2027 general elections, signalling his intention to contest for the Kogi Central senatorial seat.
According to reports, Bello emerged as the party’s consensus candidate after receiving the nomination form on Saturday, marking an early move in the buildup to the election.

He is expected to challenge the incumbent senator, Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), in what is anticipated to be a closely watched contest.
The development is set to revive a long-standing political rivalry between the two figures. Their relationship has remained strained since Akpoti-Uduaghan first declared interest in the senatorial seat during Bello’s tenure as governor.
Although she secured victory in the 2023 election, tensions between both politicians have continued. The rivalry has also been characterised by allegations from the senator accusing Bello of plotting to harm her—claims he has repeatedly denied.
With Bello now in the race, the Kogi Central senatorial contest is shaping up to be one of the key political battles ahead of the 2027 general elections.
