The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has accused the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) of preventing it from submitting the names of its candidates for the 2027 general elections by failing to provide the access code required to use the commission’s online nomination portal.
Speaking on behalf of the party, the NDC’s National Spokesman, OSA Director, said the party had formally applied to INEC for the necessary login credentials but had yet to receive a response. According to him, the delay has made it impossible for the party to upload the details of its candidates within the required timeframe.
The spokesman insisted that the party should not be blamed for any failure to submit its candidates’ nominations, arguing that the situation was caused by INEC’s inability or refusal to issue the required access code despite repeated requests.
OSA Director disclosed that the NDC would make another formal request to the electoral commission in a bid to resolve the issue. He also revealed that the party is pursuing legal action following a court judgment connected to the matter, expressing confidence that the judiciary would ensure justice is served.
The development comes as political parties continue preparations for the 2027 general elections, with compliance with INEC’s nomination guidelines remaining a critical part of the electoral process.
As of the time of filing this report, the Independent National Electoral Commission had not issued an official response to the allegations made by the Nigeria Democratic Congress.
