Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara has unveiled plans to position the state as a major tourism, leisure, and hospitality destination, declaring, “If we cannot go to Dubai, let us build our own Dubai in Rivers State.”
To advance the vision, the governor signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Federal Ministry of Art, Culture, Tourism and the Creative Economy under the Renewed Hope Cultural Project. The partnership is aimed at developing the tourism and creative sectors to boost economic growth and create more opportunities for Nigerians.
Governor Fubara said development should go beyond roads, hospitals, and other physical infrastructure, stressing the need to invest in tourism and the creative economy to create jobs for young people while preserving the state’s rich cultural heritage.
He also announced plans to redevelop the Port Harcourt Tourist Beach through a public-private partnership, with the first phase expected to open to the public by December. The governor added that work is progressing on the Andoni road project to improve access to the area’s beaches and wildlife attractions, boosting both local and international tourism.
Fubara assured residents that the projects would deliver visible results and invited federal stakeholders to return in four months to inspect the progress.
