Residents in several communities across Lagos and Osun states are facing electricity disruptions after heavy rainfall and flooding damaged key power transmission infrastructure, affecting electricity distribution in the affected areas.
The situation was confirmed in separate statements issued by the Eko Electricity Distribution Company (EKEDC) and the Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC), both of which attributed the outages to faults on major transmission lines supplying power to their networks.
According to EKEDC, electricity allocation to its coverage areas has been significantly reduced following outages on the Oshogbo–Ikeja 330-kilovolt transmission line and the Benin–Egbin 330-kilovolt transmission line. The disruption has forced the distribution company to implement load shedding across parts of its network to manage the limited power supply available.
The company explained that the faults were triggered by adverse weather conditions, including heavy rainfall and flooding, which affected critical transmission facilities and disrupted the flow of electricity to several communities.
While no specific timeline has been provided for the restoration of normal electricity supply, EKEDC said it is working closely with the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) to ensure the damaged transmission lines are repaired and returned to service as quickly as possible.
The distribution company assured customers that technical teams are monitoring the situation and that normal electricity supply will be restored immediately after the transmission infrastructure is fully operational.
EKEDC also appealed for patience and understanding from residents and businesses affected by the outages, noting that the disruptions are beyond its direct control and are linked to challenges on the national transmission network.
The latest development adds to the electricity supply challenges already being experienced in parts of the country, with many residents hoping for a swift restoration of power as repair work continues.
