At least 188 people have been killed after two powerful earthquakes, measuring magnitudes 7.2 and 7.5, struck near the town of Morón in Venezuela just 39 seconds apart.
The quakes caused widespread destruction, with dozens of buildings collapsing in the capital, Caracas. More than 1,500 people have been injured, while about 157 others remain missing.
Officials say nearly 3,000 families have been affected, as rescue teams continue searching for survivors.
Authorities described the disaster as one of the strongest earthquakes to hit Venezuela in more than a century, with the worst damage recorded in Caracas and along the country’s northern coast.
