Gunmen have abducted the Chairman of Sapele Local Government Area, Bright Abeke, in Delta State.

The incident reportedly occurred about an hour ago along Owumi Road in Sapele, where the council boss was said to have lodged in a hotel.

Eyewitness accounts indicate that the assailants, who arrived in a Range Rover, opened fire on the chairman’s security detail before forcibly taking him to an undisclosed location.

During the attack, one of his security aides was shot. As of the time of filing this report, the condition of the injured aide remains unknown.

The development has sparked panic among residents, with many calling on security agencies to take immediate action. There are increasing demands for authorities to secure all entry and exit points in Sapele through stop-and-search operations to facilitate rescue efforts and apprehend the perpetrators.
