Former presidential candidate of the Social Democratic Party, Adewole Adebayo, has alleged that there are moles within the party allegedly sponsored by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to destabilize opposition parties.

Speaking on Thursday morning during an interview on Channels Television, Adebayo warned party stakeholders and members to remain vigilant against individuals being used to cause division and confusion within the party.

According to him, the infiltration of opposition parties by ruling governments is not new in Nigeria’s political system.

“It is the practice of ruling parties, not just President Tinubu. This has existed since the days of the PDP and Obasanjo. The ruling party has always attacked other parties by sending spies to disrupt and create chaos within them,” he said.

Adebayo stated that moles would always exist in politics, whether directly or indirectly, but stressed that party leaders must demonstrate wisdom and discourage members from engaging in transactional politics.

He also warned members of the SDP against allowing themselves to be used for financial gains or temporary popularity.

“My concern is to remind members that anyone can be used by the government, especially the ruling party, and by politicians. If you allow yourself to be used just to make a little money or enjoy 15 minutes of fame, the consequences can be generational,” he added.

Speaking on the current economic hardship in the country, Adebayo said Nigerians are more concerned about rising living costs than political drama.

“A hungry person in the South-West is an angry person. A person who buys petrol at three times their salary will not be happy,” he said, adding that the suffering faced by Nigerians should be the major concern of political actors.
