Arsenal have stepped up efforts to sign Brazilian midfielder Bruno Guimarães as manager Mikel Arteta continues to strengthen his squad ahead of the 2026/27 Premier League season.
The North London club have identified the Newcastle United midfielder as one of their priority transfer targets after missing out on Italian international Sandro Tonali, who recently completed a high-profile move to Tottenham Hotspur.
Arteta is keen to add more quality and depth to his midfield as Arsenal prepare to challenge for major honours both domestically and in Europe. Guimarães, regarded as one of the Premier League’s most complete midfielders, has been on the club’s radar for several months due to his creativity, defensive work rate, and leadership qualities.
According to reports, Arsenal have held preliminary discussions with the player’s representatives, during which they were informed that an offer in the region of £60 million could be enough to open formal negotiations with Newcastle United.
Although Newcastle have not yet received an official bid, Arsenal are expected to submit a proposal in the coming days as they seek to secure one of their top transfer priorities before the new campaign gets underway.
The Gunners’ interest has reportedly been strengthened by claims that Guimarães has informed Newcastle of his intention to leave the club during the current transfer window. If confirmed, the development could improve Arsenal’s chances of reaching an agreement with the Magpies.
Newcastle, however, are not expected to let one of their key players leave without negotiating a significant transfer fee, meaning discussions could intensify if Arsenal formalise their interest.
