U.S. forces carried out a tenth consecutive night of airstrikes on Iran after President Donald Trump vowed Tehran would “pay many times over” following the deaths of American soldiers.
Iran responded by reportedly targeting U.S. military sites in Bahrain, Kuwait and Jordan, raising fears of a broader regional conflict.
Maritime security has also deteriorated. Two tankers carrying Saudi crude turned back in the Red Sea after Yemen’s Iran-backed Houthi rebels threatened to attack vessels using Saudi ports. In the Strait of Hormuz, an oil tanker was struck by an unidentified projectile, while Iran’s Revolutionary Guards said two other tankers caught fire after separate explosions.
Meanwhile, Lebanese President Joseph Aoun met President Trump at the White House as Lebanese troops deployed to a southern town following an Israeli withdrawal under a U.S.-brokered agreement.
In Washington, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth and Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, General Daniel Caine, are expected to face tough questions from lawmakers over the ongoing military campaign.
