A public affairs analyst, Opunabo Inko-Tariah, has called on Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, to openly declare his intention to seek re-election ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Speaking in Port Harcourt on Friday, Inko-Tariah, a former Special Adviser on Media to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, expressed concern over what he described as low political activity in the state as the election season approaches.

He lamented that political parties and stakeholders in Rivers State were not showing sufficient preparation for the forthcoming polls, attributing the situation to what he termed “state capture” by powerful interests allegedly influencing the political landscape.

Despite this, the analyst urged Governor Fubara to capitalise on what he described as his “organic support” among the people of the state by making his political intentions known.

According to Inko-Tariah, the governor stands a strong chance of winning in a free and fair election, even without backing from influential figures. He also claimed that there were indications of support for Fubara from within the national leadership of the All Progressives Congress.

He further warned that the will of the people might be undermined if candidates are imposed in the 2027 elections, stressing the need for transparency and democratic processes to prevail.
