Siminalayi Fubara has withdrawn from the APC Governorship Primaries in Rivers State, ending his ambition to seek re-election as governor under the platform of the All Progressives Congress.
In a statement released on Wednesday, Fubara said, “After deep reflection and extensive consultations with my family, friends, and associates, I have taken the difficult but necessary decision to withdraw from the APC gubernatorial primaries.
“I do so with a full heart and with a firm commitment to support whoever emerges as the candidate of our great party.”
The governor noted that leadership is about sacrifice and not the imposition of personal ambition.
“There comes a time when personal ambition must yield to the greater good of the people. Rivers State is bigger than any individual, and at this critical moment, the peace, stability, and unity of our dear state must take precedence over every personal interest,” he stated.
Fubara also appreciated his supporters for standing firmly with him throughout his political journey, acknowledging their prayers, resources, sacrifices, and unwavering support.
He urged them not to see his decision as a disappointment, adding, “I understand the pain and anger many of you may feel. Much has indeed been invested and sacrificed along the way, but your loyalty and trust were never in vain.”
The governor explained that his silence in recent weeks was deliberate and guided by the higher interest of Rivers State and its people.
Quoting a local proverb, Fubara said, “Not everything a hunter sees in the forest is spoken of in the marketplace. Some truths are best borne quietly, not out of fear, but out of wisdom and restraint for the sake of peace and a greater purpose.”
He further revealed that he had faced immense pressure and difficult choices but insisted that his love for Rivers State remained greater than personal ambition.
Fubara thanked the APC leadership for the opportunity and support given to him throughout the political process. He also expressed appreciation to Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his encouragement and support.
“The APC remains our collective home, and I urge all party faithful and supporters to remain steadfast and committed as we continue to build a stronger and more united future together,” he added.
Fubara stressed that his withdrawal from the upcoming Rivers State governorship election should not be seen as an act of weakness, fear, or surrender, but as a sacrifice made in the interest of peace, unity, and stability in the state.
He reaffirmed his commitment to continue serving the people of Rivers State until the completion of his tenure.
