Former Vice President Yemi Osinbajo has been appointed President of the Board of Trustees of the Nigerian Conservation Foundation (NCF), succeeding veteran public servant Philip Asiodu, who held the position for more than 25 years.
The appointment was announced during the foundation’s Annual General Meeting in Lagos, marking a new chapter for one of Nigeria’s foremost environmental conservation organisations. Osinbajo is expected to provide strategic leadership for the foundation as it continues its work in protecting biodiversity, promoting environmental sustainability and advancing climate action across the country.
His appointment further expands an impressive portfolio of international and development-focused leadership roles he has assumed since leaving public office. Since completing his tenure as Nigeria’s Vice President, Osinbajo has remained actively involved in global initiatives aimed at strengthening public health, sustainable development and clean energy.
Earlier this year, he was appointed Senior Strategic Adviser to the Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC), where he is expected to contribute to strengthening health systems and improving emergency preparedness across the continent.
He also took on the role of Co-chair of the Future of Development Cooperation Coalition alongside former Spanish Foreign Minister Arancha González Laya. The coalition works to promote innovative approaches to international development financing and stronger global partnerships to address emerging economic and social challenges.
In addition, Osinbajo was named Global Adviser to the Global Energy Alliance for People and Planet, an organisation focused on expanding access to clean and affordable energy. In that capacity, he supports efforts to mobilise investment for renewable energy projects, accelerate sustainable development and enhance Africa’s participation in global carbon markets.
His latest appointment at the Nigerian Conservation Foundation has been widely viewed as a recognition of his commitment to sustainable development and environmental governance. Observers say his experience in public policy, governance and international diplomacy is expected to strengthen the foundation’s efforts to address climate change, conserve Nigeria’s natural ecosystems and promote environmental awareness.
The Nigerian Conservation Foundation remains one of the country’s leading non-governmental organisations dedicated to environmental protection, wildlife conservation and the promotion of sustainable management of natural resources. Under Osinbajo’s leadership, the organisation is expected to deepen partnerships with government institutions, the private sector and international organisations in pursuit of its environmental and conservation objectives.
