The Minister of Defence, General Christopher Musa (Rtd), has issued a strong warning to security personnel across the country, stating that any operative who refuses to confront bandits or terrorists under the excuse of awaiting orders will be regarded as a collaborator with criminal elements.
The Defence Minister made the remarks on Wednesday during the commissioning of 62 operational vehicles and other security assets valued at ₦27.127 billion, procured by the Sokoto State Government to strengthen security operations in the state.
Addressing security agencies and government officials at the event, General Musa stressed the need for swift and decisive action against armed criminal groups. He said security personnel have a constitutional responsibility to protect lives and property and should not hesitate to engage terrorists, bandits or other violent criminals whenever they pose a threat to communities.
According to him, delaying action while waiting for additional directives could allow criminal groups to inflict greater harm on innocent citizens. He warned that any officer who deliberately fails to act in such situations would be viewed as aiding the activities of terrorists and bandits.
General Musa reiterated the Federal Government’s commitment to restoring peace and security across the country, urging security agencies to remain proactive, professional and united in confronting the nation’s security challenges. He also called for greater collaboration among the military, police, intelligence agencies and local communities to improve the effectiveness of security operations.
The Defence Minister commended Sokoto State Governor, Ahmed Aliyu, for investing heavily in security infrastructure and providing operational support for security agencies. He described the procurement of vehicles and tactical equipment as a clear demonstration of responsible leadership and a strong commitment to safeguarding lives and property in the state.
He noted that the newly commissioned operational vehicles, armoured platforms and other security equipment would significantly enhance the mobility of security personnel, improve intelligence gathering capabilities and provide greater protection for officers during operations against insurgents and bandits.
General Musa expressed confidence that the additional logistics would strengthen ongoing military and security operations, improve rapid response to security threats and contribute to sustained efforts aimed at eliminating criminal activities across Sokoto State and the wider North-West region.
