The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has submitted an interim report to President Bola Tinubu on its investigation into the alleged fictitious Presidential Foreign Investment Promotion Council (PFIPC) and its purported Director-General, Adeniyi Adeyemi.
ICPC Chairman, Musa Aliyu, disclosed this after meeting with the President at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.
Aliyu said preliminary findings showed that Adeyemi was never appointed by the Federal Government and that the appointment letter, government gazette and other documents used to establish the agency were forged.
He revealed that the fake council operated from the former office of the defunct Presidential Economic Advisory Council, where it allegedly engaged in impersonation, false representation and other unlawful activities.
According to the ICPC Chairman, investigators also uncovered two other fictitious agencies linked to the operation. He said the agencies were created with forged documents and used to open bank accounts for illegal activities.
Aliyu, however, stated that no government funds were approved or disbursed to the fake agency.
The commission has recommended the prosecution of Adeniyi Adeyemi, disciplinary action against any public officials found to have aided the operation, and reforms to strengthen internal controls across government institutions.
He added that investigations are ongoing and described the report submitted to President Tinubu as an interim report.
