The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has strongly criticised the alleged freezing of Osun State Government’s statutory allocations and bank accounts, describing the development as a politically motivated move aimed at destabilising the state ahead of the August 15 governorship election.
In a statement released on Wednesday by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, the ADC accused the Federal Government of allegedly deploying state institutions in a manner that could favour partisan interests. The party claimed the action, if true, amounts to political intimidation targeted at weakening the current administration in Osun State during a sensitive election period.
According to the opposition party, such measures, whether direct or indirect, pose a threat to democratic governance and could negatively affect the delivery of public services to residents of the state. It stressed that governance should be insulated from political rivalry, warning that citizens should not suffer as a result of political disagreements between parties.
The ADC further argued that states governed by opposition parties must be allowed to operate freely without what it described as undue interference from federal authorities, insisting that the rule of law and democratic principles must be upheld at all times.
As of the time of filing this report, the Federal Government has not issued any official response to the allegations raised by the ADC.
