
Tension erupted near the White House on Saturday evening after a shooting incident was reported close to a security checkpoint.
Reporters working around the area were immediately asked to take cover as security operatives responded to the gunfire.
President Donald Trump was reportedly inside the White House during the incident but was not affected and is said to be safe.
The suspect involved in the shooting was later shot by Secret Service officers and subsequently died from injuries sustained during the confrontation. One bystander was also reportedly struck by gunfire.

The suspect has been identified as 21-year-old Nasire Best from Maryland. Authorities say he reportedly had a history of mental health challenges.
