Meanwhile Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have intercepted two trucks carrying more than 1.5 million pills of illicit tramadol concealed in hidden compartments while attempting to enter Nigeria through the Benin Republic border.
The agency’s Director of Media and Advocacy, Femi Babafemi, disclosed on Sunday that the seizure comes just a week after NDLEA officers in Lagos recovered 558,900 tramadol pills hidden in a specially constructed false-bottom compartment of a truck.
Babafemi said the latest operation followed credible intelligence, leading to the interception of two additional trucks transporting the drugs from Togo through the Benin Republic border into Nigeria.
He described the operation as a major victory, saying the crackdown has disrupted another drug trafficking route and will help protect Nigeria’s youth, public health and national security.
