The Oba of Shasha Kingdom, Oba Nasirudeen Babatunde Ogunronbi, has called on Sarakunan Hausawa and leaders of Hausa communities across Alimosho Local Government Area of Lagos State to intensify efforts toward promoting child immunisation, strengthening community security, and mobilising residents ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The monarch made the appeal during a meeting with traditional leaders of the Hausa community held at his palace in Shasha, Alimosho.
Oba Ogunronbi warned that resistance to vaccination could expose children to preventable diseases and undermine public health initiatives. He urged the community leaders to educate residents on the importance of routine immunisation and encourage parents to cooperate with health officials during vaccination campaigns, particularly in the fight against polio.
He also called on the National Orientation Agency (NOA) to step up public enlightenment campaigns by providing communities with accurate information on the benefits of immunisation and addressing misconceptions surrounding vaccines.
On security, the traditional ruler expressed concern over the alleged involvement of some cart pushers and scavengers in criminal activities, describing the situation as a threat to peace and safety in parts of the community.
He urged the Sarakunan Hausawa to strengthen local security structures and collaborate with relevant stakeholders to improve surveillance and support community policing efforts aimed at maintaining law and order.
Looking ahead to the 2027 general elections, Oba Ogunronbi appealed to members of the Hausa community to obtain their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) and participate actively in the democratic process.
The monarch also encouraged residents to support the re-election of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for a second term and Dr. Obafemi Hamzat as Governor of Lagos State, noting that Alimosho’s large population should translate into increased voter turnout.
Speaking with journalists after the meeting, the Sarkin Hausawan Shasha, Alhaji Ilyasu Isah Kira, assured that the concerns raised would be addressed through intensified grassroots sensitisation across Hausa communities in the area.
Also speaking, the General Secretary of the Arewa Community Leaders in Alimosho, Ibrahim Abubakar Jagaba, said traditional leaders across the six local council areas would strengthen public awareness campaigns on immunisation and encourage residents to support efforts aimed at protecting children and eradicating polio.
Jagaba added that the Hausa community would continue to promote peace, responsible citizenship, and active participation in democratic processes, including voter registration ahead of the 2027 general elections.
He also appealed to residents to work closely with traditional institutions and government agencies, stressing that cooperation and mutual understanding remain essential for sustainable development and peaceful coexistence in Alimosho.
