Former Governor of Bauchi State, Mohammed Abubakar, has emerged winner of the governorship primaries of the All Progressives Congress ahead of the 2027 gubernatorial election in Bauchi State.

Abubakar defeated former Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yusuf Tuggar, and six other aspirants in the keenly contested primary election.

The result was announced on Saturday, May 23, after hours of delay by the Chairman of the APC Governorship and House of Assembly Primaries Committee for Bauchi State, John Abang.

According to the results, Mohammed Abubakar secured 57,517 votes to emerge victorious, while Yusuf Tuggar polled 26,001 votes. Nura Manu Soro came third with 13,638 votes.

Other aspirants included Bala Maijama’a A. Wunti, who scored 13,648 votes, Kabir Ma’aji with 8,157 votes, Baba Abubakar Suleiman with 7,688 votes, and Yakubu Abdullahi, who secured 7,818 votes.

Speaking after the announcement, Abubakar said becoming governor again was not just a personal ambition but a collective mission to move Bauchi State forward.

He added that his participation in the race would strengthen internal democracy and encourage healthy competition within the party.

The former governor also described his political ambition as a unifying effort aimed at promoting peace and progress within the APC.
