Vice President Kashim Shettima has described Delta State as one of Nigeria’s leading investment destinations, urging local and foreign investors to take advantage of the country’s improving economic climate.
Speaking at the opening of the Delta State Economic and Investment Summit 2026 in Asaba, Shettima said the economic reforms introduced by President Bola Tinubu had improved macroeconomic stability, strengthened investor confidence, and created a better environment for long-term investment.
He noted that improved federal allocations and recent positive ratings by international agencies have boosted confidence in Nigeria’s economy. The Vice President also commended Governor Sheriff Oborevwori for hosting the summit and reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to supporting investments and removing barriers to business.
In her keynote address, World Trade Organization Director-General, Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, urged Delta State to take advantage of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) and global supply chain opportunities to become Nigeria’s next industrial hub.
In his opening address, Governor Sheriff Oborevwori announced a 100 million US dollar Viability Gap Fund to reduce investment risks and encourage private sector participation in key development projects.
The governor said the initiative is aimed at attracting bankable investments, accelerating industrialisation, diversifying the economy, and creating jobs. He added that Delta State’s strong economy, abundant natural resources, improving infrastructure, and investor-friendly policies make it an attractive destination for investment.
